Inclusive Education Support Units Inaugurated Under Indian Grant Assistance Scheme

Inclusive Education Support Units have been renovated, developed, and officially inaugurated in three regions of the Maldives, funded by a grant of MVR 4.644 million.

These units were established and enhanced under the India Grant Assistance Scheme at G. Thinadhoo Aboobakuru School, L. Gan Ihahdhoo School, and Haa Atoll Education Center. In all three schools, the units have been made more accessible, sensory resources have been upgraded, and assistive technology devices have been installed. Additionally, an inclusive play area developed at Ihahdhoo School has been designed to enable all students to play with their peers.

As part of this initiative, 21 teachers from these schools participated in a 10-day training program under the India Grant Assistance Scheme. This training focused on setting up and effectively utilizing inclusive education support units to better support students with learning difficulties. The program included a variety of sessions covering a wide range of topics and provided participants with the opportunity to visit Indian campuses to observe inclusive education practices in mainstream settings.

This marks the second such project undertaken across schools in the Maldives under the India Grant Assistance Scheme. Previously, in 2021, inclusive education support units were established in two regions with a total grant of MVR 1.574 million.
