Capacity Building of Secondary Mathematics Teachers in Teaching Students with Complex Learning Profiles Training Concludes.

A specialized training program aimed at enhancing the capacity of secondary Mathematics teachers to effectively teach students with complex learning profiles, has successfully concluded.

The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Fathimath Shehnaaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of the Maldives National University.

Conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at the Maldives National University (MNU), the program was implemented under the World Bank-funded Atoll Education Development Project (AEDP). The initiative aims to expand access to secondary education, improve student learning outcomes, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the Maldives.

This year, the program was conducted for teachers from schools in six regions of the country. In 2025, the training program was also conducted in six regions of the country. The program trained 378 teachers (163 male, 282 female).

The training focused on inclusive pedagogical approaches and contemporary teaching methodologies relevant to secondary mathematics education. Participants also explored the learning behaviors and educational needs of students with special educational needs and were introduced to evidence-based strategies to support their participation, engagement, and academic development.

The program forms part of the Department of Inclusive Education’s ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive practices within the formal education system and ensure that all students have equitable access to meaningful learning opportunities. These efforts are aligned with the Maldives Education Act and the commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind.

Under the AEDP, a similar training program was previously conducted for secondary school English language teachers, reflecting continued efforts to build teachers’ capacity to provide inclusive and responsive learning experiences across different subject areas.
