Basic Sign Language Training Program aimed at teachers of 55 schools concludes

Basic Sign Language Training Program aimed at teachers, teaching students with hearing impairment concludes today.

The 10-day online training program was conducted by the Department of Inclusive Education in association with Jamaluddin School. A total of 4 teachers of Jamaluddin School facilitated the training program.

The closing ceremony held online, today was graced by the presence of Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Mohamed Ihsan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of such training programs as he noted that these training programs help promote inclusivity in the Maldivian education system. He also stated that such programs are an important step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Deputy Minister Ihsan wished the participants to use the information they gained through the training to promote inclusivity in the Maldivian society.

Speaking with the participants, the Director of the Department of Inclusive Education, Abdulla Imran stated that, he was elated to know that the participants were being taught in a content environment and it could have not been possible without the generous help of Jamaluddin School. He thanked the principal, leading teacher, and the teachers of Jamaluddin School for their support.

Mariyam Shiyama, a participant of the program stated that the participants are pleased that they got to be trained together. She also requested her fellow training-mates to use the information they gained in the training in the future.

The training participated by a total of 64 teachers from 55 schools in the Maldives is the first of its kind.
